I am passionate about capturing the beauty of both wildlife and our beloved pets through every brushstroke, infusing life and emotion into each piece. As an instructor, I believe in the transformation power of art and the joy it brings to everyone, regardless of their experience level. Painting allows us to see the world through fresh eyes , and I encourage my students to embrace this process. My primary medium is oil paint, but I occasionally work with soft pastel, particularly for the vibrant textures and depth.
I began painting full-time in 2009 and was honoured to be named as the Kempenfest Feature Artist, an achievement highlighted by Pie Magazine and the Barrie Examiner. My work has been showcased in numerous gallery shows, connecting with a broader audience and providing opportunities to share my love for art. In 2013, I earned the Master Pastelist Award and signature status (MPAC) from Pastel Artists Canada, a testament to my dedication to the medium.
Teaching has been a rewarding extension of my art practice. In 2019, I became a Certified Bob Ross Instructor®, which has allowed me to guide students of all ages through the joys of oil painting. I offer a variety of courses, including drawing for youth and adults, and animal art in oils.
My studio, nestled on a tranquil 10-acre property with a river running through it, provides the perfect backdrop for both my art and my teaching. Surrounded by abundant wildlife, I often spend my days photographing and drawing inspiration from the natural world around me, incorporating these elements into my work.
One of my most special commissions came from the Sir Frederick Banting Legacy Foundation, who asked me to paint "Marjorie", the dog that played a pivotal role in the discovery of insulin. This painting now hangs in the Banting Museum in Alliston, Ontario, an experience that has been a true honour for me as an artist. My philosophy as an artist and instructor is that art should evoke a connection, whether it's with nature, a beloved pet, or a cherished memory. I am continually inspired by the stories behind each portrait I create, and my goal is to capture the unique essence of my subjects, bringing them to life on canvas. Through my art and teaching, I aim to inspire others to see beauty in everyday and to find their creative voice.
